The Story of LEGAL

LEGAL began with a conversation in November 2023 at Brasserie Créole on Linden Boulevard in Queens. Jimmy, Guy, Johnny, T-Marco, Moïse, and Benjy gathered around the idea of building a band. They had a name by the end of that meeting. The rest still had to be earned.

On December 21, 2023, they held their first rehearsal in Margely’s small studio in Brooklyn. That room became the starting point of LEGAL’s journey. There were songs to learn, a sound to develop, and the challenge of finding time to come together and practice.

The lineup changed early on. Benjy, the original lead vocalist, left, and Mario stepped in. Moïse, the original lead guitarist, would also move on. Each change meant adjusting and working to keep the band moving forward.

Then came LEGAL’s first performance at Mélimélo in Long Island. Patrick Jules gave the band its first opportunity to play at his restaurant and bar. It was a chance to share with an audience what they had been building in rehearsal.

Those beginnings were far from easy. LEGAL had no management and no original music yet. The members were still searching for their sound while learning how to grow as a band. They kept showing up, rehearsing, and taking every opportunity they could.

That is the journey behind LEGAL: a group that started with a meeting in Queens, found its footing in a small Brooklyn studio, and worked for its first chance to be heard. The band is still building, one rehearsal, one performance, and one step at a time.
